Layered Pavers, Walls, Lighting, and Planting for a San Mateo Home

A San Mateo HIC project combining Calstone Quarry Stone pavers, walls, drainage, irrigation, lighting, sod, planting, and side-yard hardscape into a coordinated outdoor renovation.

The Problem

Existing front and side-yard areas needed more durable circulation and cleaner transitions.

The rear patio and walkout needed a finished hardscape connection around the deck and planting zones.

Drainage, irrigation, lighting, walls, and planting had to be coordinated as one system rather than handled as isolated add-ons.

Our Approach

Sequoia coordinated the layout, hardscape sequencing, walls, drainage, irrigation, lighting, planting, and finish details so the front and rear areas read as one planned outdoor environment.

The Plan

Used the final layout plan to organize front, rear, and side-yard circulation before construction.

Specified Calstone Quarry Stone pavers and complementary masonry/brick details for the hardscape surfaces.

Integrated drainage, irrigation, path lighting, uplighting, sod, planting, decorative rock, and root-barrier details into the build scope.

The Build

The Result

The finished project connects driveway, front garden wall, side-yard circulation, and rear patio space with consistent paver work, planting, drainage, and lighting.

FAQs

Why combine pavers, drainage, irrigation, and lighting in one plan?
Coordinating them early reduces rework because utilities, grade, planting, and hardscape edges all affect one another.
Can pavers work for both driveway and patio areas?
Yes. The important details are base preparation, edge restraint, drainage, and choosing patterns and colors that suit each zone.
What should San Mateo homeowners verify before similar work?
Confirm current permit, utility, drainage, and HOA requirements with the city, HOA, and a licensed contractor before construction.
